Mgr Guy-Real Thivierge

Secretary General, International Federation of Catholic Universities (FIUC)

Born in 1945 at Port-Alfred (Quebec, Canada), Guy-Réal Thivierge has been a priest at the diocese of Chicoutimi since 1970. He graduated from the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes (Paris), obtained a licence in Holy Scripture and a doctorate in dogmatic theology (Rome).

He taught in Canada and Rome, more especially in the fields of Christian anthropology and Christology. He has been associated with the activities of the IFCU (International Federation of Catholic Universities) Centre for Coordination of Research (CCR) since 1985 and became its director in 1994. He also fulfilled the functions of Assistant Secretary General of IFCU as from that date and became Secretary General of the Federation in 2001. He published various books and articles in the field of biblical theology and edited many studies in the field of social sciences as director of the CCR of IFCU.

In 2003 the President of the French Republic made him Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honour and in 2004 His Sanctity the Pope John Paul II appointed him as consultant of the Congregation for Catholic Education. In 2010, after six years of presidency, he was nominated President Emeritus of the International Catholic Center for Cooperation with UNESCO.
